Annual Report 2019

IEEE COMSOC Student Branch Chapter, AMRITA SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING, BENGALURU

Introduction:

IEEE ComSoc – IEEE Communications Society of Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru is a wing of IEEE Student Branch. ComSoc has its own importance and technique in conducting and organizing events. IEEE Communications Society has introduced which are out of syllabus and could grasp student’s interest in particular domains which are emerging technologies now a days. The club event are unique which helps students to know about the present communication systems such as 5G, IoT, Ambient Backscatter.

These events are conducted not only under technical criteria but also as various fun events.

IEEE Communications Society started its introduction program on 17th July 2019. It has planned to conduct various events on fascinating topics such as Short waves, 5G.

IEEE Communications Society has not only been a club but also a place for new thoughts and knowledge hub to know about new and upcoming communication technologies. It has provided many students a platform to learn about new technologies and will always be.

Details of Resource person: Dr. Dhanesh G. Kurup, Professor ECE Dept., ASE – Bangalore.

Brief Description:

IEEE Communication Society Student Chapter had an introductory talk on Radio Wave communication on 24 September 2019 at Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru.

Dr. Dhanesh G. Kurup enlightened the crowd with Radio Wave communication which had been a very important mode of communication for Air Traffic and much more. The talk discussed types of radio communication which continued with the difference between Analog Communication and Digital Communication, later it continued with the importance of transferring data and differences between transferring Analog Data and Digital Data. The speaker focused mainly on how it is useful for INDIAN ARMY. The session ended with Mr. D Meher Vamsi, Chair, IEEE ComSoc (Year III, ECE) thanking the speaker and the audience.

On the whole, the talk was very interesting and enlightened students about Radio Wave Communication and its importance in our lives.

Event 2

TITLE: Talk on Ambient Back Scatter Communication

VENUE: Krishna Hall

DATE and Time: 29-02-2020 & 09:30 AM

Number of participants: IEEE: 22 Non-IEEE: 1 Total: 23

Details of Resource person: Dr. Sanjeev Gurugopinath, Professor ECE Dept., PES University, Bengaluru

Brief Description:

IEEE Communication Society Student Chapter had an talk on Radio Ambient Backscatter Communications on 29 February 2020 at Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru.

The Session was presided over by Mr. K.S Prajwal (IEEE Amrita Student Branch Vice Chair) who introduced the Guest Speaker of the session Dr. Sanjeev Gurugopinath, who is the recipient of Best Paper Awards at IEEE INDICON 2016 and ICEECCOOT 2019. He’s currently working as a professor at PES University, Bengaluru. The speaker gave a brief idea about the Backscatter communications and the ever-increasing proliferation of wireless objects and consistent connectivity demands are creating significant challenges for battery-constrained wireless devices. He further included that this Backscatter is going to be included in 5G in emerging technology. The speaker concluded the session with explanation of the prototype developed for the Backscatter response. The session ended with Mr. K. S. Prajwal thanking the Speaker and audience.
