The IEEE ComSoc Student Branch Chapter at SJEC, Mangalore is inaugurated on April 2018. SJEC IEEE has shown a strong motivation and interest. They have very good team and led by branch Counselor Prof Keith, a very dynamic and energetic volunteer.

Event 1:

TITLE: Sci-tech Quiz

VENUE: St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru

The quiz competition ‘Sci-Tech’, organized by IEEE SJEC student branch- IEEE Comsoc society, was conducted on May 10, 2019.

The purpose of the Quiz was to promote Quizzing among the younger generation. The teams consisted of two members each. A total of 24 teams participated in the event. Mr Sandeep Kamath, Quizmaster conducted the quiz competition.

The Quiz started at 9:30 am with the preliminary round which consisted of 25 questions. It was an elimination round and 6 teams were selected for the finals. The finals consisted of 5 rounds of questions and answers with variety in questions including Bounce and Pounce, Google Doodle, and Buzzer rounds. During the quiz, questions were asked to the audience as well and appropriate prizes were awarded for the answers.

TITLE: Sci-tech Quiz- 2.0

VENUE: St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru

The IEEE student branch, Comsoc Society organized an inter-college quiz competition in account of the IEEE week celebration on 30 September 2019.

Students from many engineering colleges like NITK,NMAMIT,MITE and Canara engineering college had participated, including SJEC. The students had participated in teams of 2 members. There were a total of 60 teams that participated.

The quiz master for the day was Mr. Sandeep Kamath who is a national level quizzer and an eminent quiz master. The quiz competition started off with a preliminary round of 25 questions. The top 6 teams with the highest scores in the first round qualified to the final round. The final round was a combination of 5 interesting rounds which included buzzers, audio and videos

TITLE: Technical talk on ‘1,2,3,4,5 of Cryptography

IEEE SJEC Student Branch in association with Communication Society organized a technical talk on ‘1, 2, 3, 4, 5 of Cryptography’ by Dr Alwyn Roshan Pais, HOD, Department of CSE, NITK, Surathkal. The talk was conducted on Oct 1, 2019 between 11:50 am-1:00pm at Fr Fred Memorial Hall. The talk was open for all interested students of SJEC. The speaker Dr Alwyn Roshan Pais explained about the basic idea of Cryptography and the mathematics involved in the theory behind cryptography.

IEEE ComSoc Plans for 2020

  1. An intercollegiate level mega event/ competition named ‘RIG-IT Up’ is planned to be held in July 2020. The competition will have three parallel tracks, one track for digital circuit, one track for analog circuit and third track for Arduino board rig up. (This event was planned for April 2020, however due to lockdown it is held up)

  2. A 3-day workshop is planned to be held in July 2020 (when semester starts) on cutting edge technology such as Block-chain, Artificial intelligence, etc.

  3. Distinguished lecture series is planned to be held every month starting from August to December 2020. It is planned to conduct talks and seminars from eminent personnel from Industry and academia from across the country to deliver talk in latest technology and trends

  4. Sci-tech 3.0, a science and technical quiz is planned to be held as a part of IEEE day activity. Also, a poster making competition is planned for IEEE day
